Born Leslie Lindsay 1st January, 1937. Died 28th June, 2000.
Born into a family of 10 and raised in South Shields, Les was quite typical of most lads of his
generation. On leaving school he went to the pit to work. Mining was hard work and fraught with
danger, but the miners had a camaraderie second to none. It was this closeness between "marras" that
made the miners something special, they were the salt of the earth, they worked hard and often
played hard.
When the Colliery closed, Les went to the shipyards to work. His work took him all over the country
and often abroad. Les worked at this job until illness forced his retirement.
Les was a man who liked to socialise and enjoyed a pint or two or three! He socialised with his
mates, usually in his local where he played domino's, 5s and 3s.
January 1st was Les's birthday! His celebration started on New Years Eve and went on, usually for
two or three days.
Les married Pat in 1965, raised a family of three girls and currently has eight grandchildren and
two great-grandsons.
After his family, his passion was Football, Sunderland A.F.C.
Les had supported Sunderland from the age of 8, sometimes walking to Roker Park, and eventually
became a full season ticket holder.
Les was sadly diagnosed with Cancer in 1999, he fought on bravely but lost his battle and died
peacefully at home in June 2000.
Les was well known and liked by many people. He was gregarious and friendly and would chat to
anyone, having an obvious talent for making lifelong friends. He was a great man, who will always be
missed for many good reasons.
In tears we saw you sinking,
We watched you fade away,
Our hearts were almost broken,
You fought so hard to stay,
But when we saw you sleeping,
So peacefully free from pain,
We could not wish you back,
To suffer that again.
At Peace. x x x x x x x

In loving memory of Maureen Laverick, who died suddenly on 11th September, 2007.
Maureen was the baby sister of Les, and youngest of the Lindsay family.
Maureen will be sadly missed, by all who knew her. x♥X♥x
A wife, a mother, a grandma too,
This is the legacy we have from you,
You taught us love, and how to fight,
You gave us strength, you gave us might.
A stronger person, would be hard to find,
And in your heart, you were always kind,
You fought for us all in one way or another,
Not just as a wife, not just as a mother.
For all of us you gave your best,
Now the time has come for you to rest,
So go in peace, you've earned your sleep,
Your love in our hearts, we'll eternally keep.
♥
In loving memory of Doris Lindsay, who died peacefully on 25th October, 2007.
Reunited with your brother Les and sister Maureen.
Dot will be sadly missed, by all who knew her. x♥X♥x
Always a smile, instead of a frown,
Always a hand, when one is down,
Always true, thoughtful and kind,
Wonderful memories she left behind.

There is a place in every heart,
They call it Memory Lane,
Where thoughts of loved ones lost,
Forever will remain.
God made this special place,
When He first created man,
For He knew it would be needed,
As part of our life's plan.
He knew when loved ones left us,
We'd need some time to heal,
To come to terms with sorrow,
And the loneliness we'd feel.
So when you lose a loved one,
And your life is filled with pain,
The comfort of their presence,
Will be found in Memory Lane.
There is a family who misses you,
And finds time long since you went,
We think of you daily and hourly,
But try to be brave and content.
Tears that we shed are in silence,
And we breath a sigh of regret,
For you were ours, and we remember,
Though all the world forget. x x x x x x x
His weary hours and days of pain,
His troubled nights are past,
And in our aching hearts we know,
He has found sweet rest at last. xxxx
In loving memory of Dad.
In tears we saw you sinking,
We watched you fade away,
Our hearts were almost broken,
You fought so hard to stay,
But when we saw you sleeping,
So peacefully free from pain,
We could not wish you back,
To suffer that again.
Missed today and everyday, love Lesley and Mark. xxx
Thinking of you today and always.
We took our vows together,
Said, 'Till death do us part',
But when God came and took your hand,
My whole world fell apart.
No one knows the heartache,
I try so hard to hide,
Only God knows how many times,
I've broken down and cried.
When I look back upon our lives,
One of the things that makes me glad,
That you chose me to share with you,
The precious years we had.
All my love today and always, Pat. xxx
Thinking Of You Today & Always.....
The golden gate stood open,
Seven years ago today,
With farewells left unspoken,
Our dear one slipped away,
He suffered much in silence,
His spirit did not bend,
He faced the pain with courage,
Until the very end.
All Our Love, Alison & Kevin. x x
With Love To Our Grandad.
Our lives go on without you,
But nothing is the same,
We have to hide our heartaches,
When someone speaks your name,
Sad are the hearts that love you,
Silent the tears that fall,
Living our hearts without you,
Is the hardest part of all,
You did so many things for us,
Your heart was kind and true,
And when we needed someone,
We could always count on you,
The special years will not return,
When we were all together,
But with the love within our hearts,
You will walk with us forever. x x x x x x x x x
Loving Memories Of Dad.
I thought of you with love today, but that is nothing new,
I thought about you yesterday, and days before that too,
I think of you in silence, I often speak your name,
All I have are memories, and your picture in a frame,
Your memory is my keepsake, with which I'll never part,
God has you in His keeping, I have you in my heart. xXx
Missed today & always, Love Melanie & Dave. xXx
They fought what was a great battle, and are inspirational to us all.
We will always be proud of these beautiful people, whose lives were cut too short.
Thinking of you all. xxxx
